EMPOWERMENT: Re: How to argue with an Economist

Lindy

To help you publicise your book I will copy this note to Andrea Westall who is deputy director of The New Economics Foundation (NEF) based in London.  They may like to include in their book list.  You can check them out at http://www.neweconomics.org/  Andrea has just edited a booklet that I prepared for them on A NEW WAY TO GOVERN being published by NEF next month to provide an alternative to privatisation or government ownership.

One of NEF's most knowledgeable members is Pat Conaty and he may like to review your book for them.

Members of the Ford Foundation sponsored Capital Ownership Group (COG) http://cog.kent.edu/ may also be interested and I will include a copy of this note on their Economics of Empowerment list at http://cog.kent.edu/grpeog.html whose discussion is archived at http://cog.kent.edu/archives/empowerment/msg00000.html

Last Friday I showed your message to Linda Weiss who holds a personal chair in political science as the University of Sydney.   She requested that I shared details of your book with her.  It may be of interest to her students.

I would assume that you are aware of the alternative economic text books Economics: A new introduction prepared by Hugh Stretton http://styluspub.com/books/book4183.htmlhttp://styluspub.com/books/book4183.html and by Steve Keen's Debunking Economics http://bus.uws.edu.au/Steve-Keen/

How is your book different?

If you or any others I am sharing this message with might like to publish a review of the 9,575 words on A NEW WAY TO GOVERN I can send a pre-publication version by e-mail.

Kind regards

Shann

Hi Shann,

Race Matthews gave me your contact details.

I have a book entitled 'How to argue with an Economist' being published by
Cambridge Uni Press in a few months time.  I am currently looking for
places that I should target to review or advertize the book.

Race suggested that you would be able to point me in the direction of
websites on alternative economics. Do you have any places you would suggest
I target?

The background of the book is that I was working in the economics area in
the Dept of Prime Minister and Cabinet when I became concerned that, due
to an over reliance on a narrowly economic framework, there were a string of
issues that our policy advice systematically overlooked.

Thanks for your time
